13.09.2015 The 9th Mikael Tariverdiev International Organ Competition is over

The closing ceremony of the 9th Mikael Tariverdiev International Organ Competition was held at the Kaliningrad Cathedral on September, 8. Presented by Fyokla Tolstaya, it included the awarding ceremony and a concert by the competition’s winners.

21 organists took part in semifinals Kaliningrad recitals, from 10 countries: Russia, Germany, Japan, Poland, Slovakia, the Netherlands, South Korea, Poland, Latvia, Uzbekistan and Italy. The first qualification rounds had been held in Kansas (USA), Hamburg (Germany), and Moscow, where participants had faced a challenging selection process in order to advance to the 2nd and 3rd rounds held in Kaliningrad. The competition finals were held at the Kaliningrad Cathedral, home to one of the best organs in Russia and Europe.

After three days of competition recitals, winners and awardees of the 9the Mikael Tariverdiev International Organ Competition were announced as follows:

1st prize and title of Laureate:
Ikuyo Mikami (Japan)

2nd prize and title of Laureate:
Lukas Euler (German)

3rd prize and title of Laureate:
Antonio Di Dedda (Italy) and Maria Lebedeva (Russia)

Special prize For Best Interpretation of Mikael Tariverdiev works:
Ikuyo Mikami (Japan)

Diploma and Awardee title:
Vladimir Skomorokhov (Russia)

Diploma and Awardee title:
Heji An (South Korea)

Besides the prize money, the winners and finalists also received numerous prizes and awards, as well as an opportunity to perform at the world’s best concert halls.

The competition was traditionally accompanied by the Organ+ Festival. The festival concluded on 9 September with a programme titled LOST IN THE MUSIC. British singer and composer Stephen Coates and his band, The Real Tuesday Weld, played English songs and music by Mikael Tariverdiev. The concert included a presentation of CDs and vinyl records of Mikael Tariverdiev’s music published in the UK.
