Songsun Lee was to have participated in this year’s competition. Tragocally she lost her life in an automobile accident in Florida of April, 21th. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of Songsun’s family and friends.
Songsun Lee, from the Republic of Korea, earned academic degrees from Ewha University (BM in composition and music theory, MM in organ performance) where she studied with Moon-Kyung Chae. She enrolled in Conservatory of Music in Oberlin in 2004, earned an Artist Diploma (OC 06) in organ performance and continued her study in Historical Performance. While at Oberlin, she studied organ with James David Christie, harpsichord with Webb Wiggins, and clavichord and forte piano with David Breitman. She was awarded 1st Prize in the 2007 San Marino Elftman Organ Competition, 2nd prize and was named as a finalist in the 2006 and 2008 Fort Wayne National Organ Competitions. She was also a semifinalist in the 2007 Nürnberg International Organ Competition, and the 1st International Bach / Liszt Organ Competition at Erfurt, Weimar, Merseburg, Germany in 2008. In January of 2009, she moved to Vero Beach, Florida where she is Associate Music Director in Community Church of Vero Beach, UCC.
